Why I Still Stand
Rich Rovegno has been a sidewalk counselor since Big Blue was launched in 2011. Last week we talked to Rich to ask him why he still comes out to pray and this is what he had to say.
I have been coming here (to Planned Parenthood) for about 12-13 years ever since the Bus (Big Blue) has been parked out here. I would come out here to pray and back in the early days there were large groups praying. And I remember one time a lady was holding a sign that said, "I regret my abortion." I thought "wow". I remember talking to her and she told me that she had an abortion when she was "young and stupid". But after the abortion the nurse told me it was a boy. Then it hit her what she did because up until that point nobody told her it was a baby."
So it really hit me then that these babies are someone's son or daughter.
Over the years, I have also seen idiot boyfriends leave their girlfriends when they are pregnant and I keep thinking about these poor girls. I was even approached by a young 15 year old hispanic girl who thought she was pregnant and I took her over to the bus. They helped her and she kept her baby.
So I still come here for the poor girls who have been left alone and are scared. I don't want to leave Planned Parenthood's sidewalk empty because I think maybe there is a girl coming down here today who needs real help.
Rich was a recent recipient of our David Award, which is given to an outstanding individual who has dedicated their time, talent, and treasure to stand up to the giant of the abortion industry. The award is inscribed with the following words: Indomitabel valor when facing the giant. Thank you Rich for facing the giant and helping women in crisis pregnancies choose life!
